My New favorite Browser

Thanks to Digg I discovered my new favorite web browser. Shiira is an open source Mac only web browser designed very much to be a competitor to Mozilla's Firefox, I have been using it since yesterday and I love it. It's available for free download from Shiira
I dare say it's faster than Firefox and has many features not available in any other browser on the Mac. It uses Core Image to give us OSX Tiger users a nice "page turning" effect when you navigate forwards or backwards. It seamlessly integrates your Safari and Firefox bookmarks into it's own, which I appreciated very much. It has a sidebar which gives you access to your bookmarks, history, downloads, RSS feeds and more.

Shiira also has a feature called "Tab Expose", when you press F8 all open tabs are displayed on the screen in the same way applications are when you call Expose on OSX. This feature I find very useful. Shiira is at version 1.2.1 and still has a few bugs. It quit on me twice yesterday, however I find it a great alternative to Firefox.

Mac users check it out!

Think Different

Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes, the ones who see things differently.

Their not fond of rules and they have no respect for the status quo.
You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, about the only thing you can't do is ignore them, because they change things, they push the human race forward.

And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.
It is the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Luxuriousity on Ebay

Luxuriosity is also selling free open source software on CD on Ebay.
For a price of course.

Some people on Ebay have figured out that the software is actually free and have left negative feedback, such as this:

RIPOFF! Software is FREE from maufacturer, Compiere, Inc. Check thier Web site

Reply by inexpensivecds: Customer is confused. Luxuriousity distributes and supports many CRM ERP POS

Nice customer support, you complain and apparantly your "confused" about the fact that you just got ripped off.
A news story about this rip off.

UPDATE: The open source software community have jumped upon this story and since then the Luxuriousity website has been down. My blog actually made the first page of the MSN search engine when you search for Luxuriousity, which was cool.

Luxuriousity now links to the Free Software Foundations donation page. Has the owner of Luxuriousity realised the error of his ways. I hope so.

Open Source Software Scam

Here it is my first rant of the year, I honestly hope this gets the attention of Luxuriousity, a so called "software distributor". With the following statement who wouldn't buy their products: "NO SOFTWARE BRAND IS MORE POWERFUL & COMPATIBLE THAN LUXURIOUSITY!"

Sounds great huh? Actually no, this company is offering to sell you an instant download to free open source software. That's right the software they charge money to download is offered online straight from the programmers at no charge to you.

Luxuriousity's 5 office programs are all in fact OpenOffice, the free open source office suite available for Windows, Mac and Linux (and is very good!). Available for free download here.
Luxuriousity charges $12 - $30 for this free program and gives no credit to it's original creators.

Next up is Luxuriousity's photo program, which is the open source Photoshop competitor called The Gimp, available for Windows, Mac and Linux and is available for free download here. Yet another awesome piece of open source software made by some very hard working people being sold for up to $30 at Luxuriousity with no credit to it's creators.

Luxuriousity's sound editor is Audacity, available for free download here. Yet it's as much as $30 from Luxuriousity. And finally Luxuriousity's media player looks like the Video Lan Client or VLC, again free and available here.

Now they don't actually say they made this software, which of course they didn't, however they are charging up to $30 for open source software which is available to anyone for free. However he has recompiled them and REMOVED functionality, making them inferior to the original free software.

I love this line: "When you make a purchase from Luxuriousity, you can be assured you are receiving the highest quality software and the best possible prices."

Hey buddy, do you know what the best possible price for OpenOffice, The Gimp, Audacity and VLC is? FREE

In the case of Luxuriousity. FREE software is BETTER than their recompiled pay versions of the same free software. I hope someone takes this so called "company" to the cleaners and back.

First Post of 2006!!

I haven't updated my blog in a while due to being busy at work and college in the run up to Christmas. The weekend before college finals I had to attend a weekend camp for work, then my finals kicked in and everything else was put on hold. But I am back with a vengence.

I had a good Christmas, I got some useful stuff for a change. A new jacket, boots, hat, gloves, which I really needed, especially the boots. My birthday was on the 14th of December and I got some games for my Nintendo DS. So I have plenty to do until college starts again next week.

I got my girlfriend the two Inuyasha movies she was missing and finally the Demon Inuyasha figure, she has him in all three forms now.

I hope everyone who reads this (yup all 3 of you) had a great Christmas and New Year!!!

Oh and a note for a friend of mine, you know who you are. Yes Dog's wife's breasts are lethal weapons!
